Geeky Kids

We always tell our kids that we have to create our own toys. Buying toys is okay only for special occasions, eg. birthday.


They show me these toys today: a laptop & a cell-phone. It's just a plain of paper with some doodles. It looks simple but it means a lot for us as their parents. Creativity & imagination can do a lot better than merely buying toys.

Off To The Ocean With Cardboard Boat

We always get hysterical when we see big giant unused cardboard. Fantasy & imagination goes wild. Are going to make a castle? A railroad? A racing car? How about... a boat?



Oh we need to decorate the boat! So we can sail the colorful journey in the ocean!
Oh are we going to see any shark? Flying fish? The Yellow Submarine?

The Nomadbrush

Finally, after a month of waiting, now the Nomadbrush is in our hand!
Let's answer the first question: IS IT GOOD?



Trying with several paint app: ArtRage, Auryn Ink, SketchBook Pro & Brushes. Bottom line: it's a different experience. It gives me a 'floating' sensation, compare to pointing-finger that always pressed to the iPad screen. And I still need my finger for some task like choosing the color, brush or save the file. Takes time getting used to paint with this digital brush.



So is it good?
As an amateur painter myself, I do enjoy painting with Nomadbrush. Although the result is different - the painting experiences are also differ from one app to another - the feel is almost the same compare with traditional brushes. My favorite app is Auryn Ink.

Another question: HOW IS IT COMPARE TO ANALOG MEDIUM?

Don't expect that this Nomadbrush will bring the same traditional brush experience to your iPad.
Both are different. Both are good. With the traditional painting medium, you can feel the texture of the paper, the wetness of the water, the swinging brush for thick-thin stroke.
With iPad & Nomadbrush, those sensations are gone. Flat, cold, virtual. But it's another new sensation & dimension. Each app has uniqueness & user-interface. Each app has different approach for painting. And this Nomadbrush takes you beyond than finger-painting.

Photo-Watercolorizing

I'm doing an intro for cooking TV program. The idea is a restaurant menu with watercolor-style food pictures - by using Dita's food photography. Click for some details.

Currently, I'm still watercolorizing (is it a right term?) the photos in Photoshop. Haven't reach the motion composition step yet.

(DIY) How to Make Draped Cardigan

It's spring time and it's time to wear a light cardigan....yay!! I've been wanting to buy light draped cardigan, but this is not the best time for shopping. We have to save more money because this year Leia is going to school. So I had an idea, why I didn't make my own draped cardi. All I need is only my old t-shirts or just bought some chepo t-shirts :). Easy peasy!!

I will show you how to make it and I hope it's clear enough to be followed

Step 1 :
Cut vertically in the middle of the t-shirt



Step 2 :
Cut diagonally across the bottom of the t-shirt



Step 3 :
Do it both sides and save the triangle scraps



Step 4 :
Cut out the neckline



Step 5 :
Sew the remaining triangle scrap to the vertical side of the t-shirt. Cut out the fabric excess.

VOILA!!!



And now I'm so happy because I have 3 new draped cardigans.
